Australian residents only. Yamaha CP3-powered bikes only. Please read the full product description below for a full breakdown of each configuration, as well as shipping instructions for sending your ECU to us.

If you'll alternate between them, we recommend the "baffle in" tune (better general fuel consumption).
Confirmation*

I have read the description and I understand that if my bike does not meet the above requirements (Yamaha CP3-powered bikes ONLY, not a brand-new bike with a locked ECU, I have disclosed all existing/planned modifications) then a tune cannot take place using the mail-in ECU flash tune service.

Mail-in ECU flash tune for Yamaha CP3-powered motorcycles. Australian residents only.

Get the most out of your XSR900, MT09 (including SP models), or R9 exhaust with a custom ECU tune from Kelpi Custom Moto. You choose the configuration, post us your ECU, and we collaborate with long-time partner Kevin Hope to flash the appropriate software and send it back to you, ready to refit.

What's included

  • Power derestrictions (1st and 2nd gear): optional
  • Speed derestrictions (5th and 6th gear): optional
  • Throttle on/off fuel cut: remove for smooth throttle on/off and reduced engine braking, or leave as OEM for slightly better fuel efficiency
  • Tune for baffle in or baffle out (if you alternate, we recommend the 'baffle in' tune for better general fuel consumption)
  • AFRs tuned across all modes
  • Top speed restriction removed in all modes (if you choose to derestrict 5th/6th gear)
  • Rain mode remains throttle restricted, as it's a safety feature for riding in the wet

Requirements

  • Yamaha CP3-powered bikes only
  • Your bike must not be brand new with a locked ECU. If you bought it in the last 6 months, contact us first, as the tuning software we use may not have unlocked your ECU yet
  • You must disclose all existing and planned engine modifications (especially air intake and/or air filter mods) and the baffle combination you'll use most often

How it works

  1. Select your options and place your order
  2. Carefully remove your ECU (the plastic retention clips get brittle on bikes older than 2 to 3 years, so be patient)
  3. Post it to: Kelpi Custom Moto, 14/121 Newmarket Road, Windsor QLD 4030
  4. We flash your tune and ship it back to you

Optional OBD tool available for an additional $65 (select the "Tune + OBD tool" option) - this tool is not a necessity for our tunes. Any check engine lights or fault codes will self-clear within four or five heat cycles on the bike's engine (this is normal and to be expected when running an aftermarket exhaust and tune).

However, we recommend the OBDII reader if you've previously had check engine lights prior to modification, or if you're planning further modifications after tuning your ECU, or just want the equipment to have on-hand and for added peace of mind. The OBDII reader cannot be purchased directly through Kelpi.

FAQs

Do I need an ECU tune if I've fitted a Kelpi exhaust?

No. Every Kelpi muffler and baffle combination sits inside our safe zone (see our Exhausts Glossary), so a tune isn't required to run one. This service is for riders who want fuelling tuned to their exact setup, plus the optional derestrictions and fuel cut changes listed above.

Which bikes is this for?

Yamaha CP3-powered bikes only (e.g. MT-09, XSR900, R9). If you're not sure whether your bike has the CP3 engine, check with us before ordering.

Is this service available outside Australia?

No. The tune is for Australian residents only. For US-based customers, we recommend reaching out to VCycleNut instead.

How does the mail-in process work?

Order the tune and select your options, carefully remove your ECU, and post it to Kelpi Custom Moto, 14/121 Newmarket Road, Windsor QLD 4030. We flash your tune and send it back to you for refitting.

How do I remove my ECU without damaging it?

Take your time with the plastic retention clips. They tend to go brittle on bikes older than 2 to 3 years and need patience to unclip safely.

What's included in the tune?

AFRs are tuned across all modes. You choose whether to derestrict power in 1st and 2nd gear, derestrict speed in 5th and 6th gear, and whether to remove the throttle on/off fuel cut. Rain mode stays throttle restricted as a safety feature for wet conditions.

What does the throttle on/off fuel cut option change?

Removing it gives smoother throttle on/off response and reduced engine braking. Leaving it as OEM gives slightly better fuel efficiency.

Should I choose the baffle in or baffle out tune?

Choose the one that matches how you'll ride most. If you plan to alternate between baffle in and out, we recommend the baffle in tune, as general fuel consumption will be better. You'll also tell us which baffle combination you use most often when you order (see our glossary for the full range of Flanker and Shorty combinations).

What if I change my exhaust or baffle later?

All our tunes have some degree of flexibility built into them. Depending on how closely your planned mods match the original tune developed for the Kelpi exhaust and baffle combination you're using, no further tuning may be necessary. However, if you're reverting to the stock system, or moving to a de-cat system (etc etc), another tune may be required. In this instance, you'll need to re-send us your ECU for another round of flash tuning.

Why do you need to know my other modifications?

The tune is built around your whole setup, especially air intake and air filter changes. If we don't have the full picture, we can't tune it properly, and we may not be able to proceed.

My bike is brand new. Can I still order?

Bikes under 6 months old may not have been unlocked by Woolich Racing (the software we use for tuning) yet. Contact us before ordering so we can confirm your model is supported.

What does the optional OBD tool do?

We recommend the OBDII reader if you've previously had check engine lights prior to modification, or if you're planning further modifications after tuning your ECU, or just want the equipment to have on-hand and for added peace of mind. The OBDII reader cannot be purchased directly through Kelpi.

How long does it take, and who pays for return postage?

The price is $495 AUD plus shipping. When purchasing the product through our website, the return shipping is included - you will need to cover the shipping costs to get the ECU to us (but not from us). For Brisbane-based customers, please select "pickup" as the shipping option at checkout.

Will this affect my warranty or roadworthiness?

ECU modifications can affect manufacturer warranty, and requirements vary by state, so we recommend checking with your dealer and your state's road authority before ordering.
