The 2021-2023 Yamaha MT09 and MT09 SP marked a major evolution of Yamaha's CP3 platform. With an all-new chassis, revised suspension package, updated electronics suite, and sharper overall styling, the third-generation MT09 quickly earned a reputation as one of the most exciting naked bikes on the market.

Despite the improvements, the factory exhaust system remains heavily constrained by emissions, packaging, and noise regulations. The result is an oversized assembly that masks much of the CP3 engine's character while adding unnecessary weight and visual bulk.

The Kelpi Slipstream exhaust system for the 2021-2023 MT09 platform delivers a more compact appearance, improved performance, and a soundtrack that truly does Yamaha's triple-cylinder engine justice.

Unlike our traditional CP3 exhaust system, the Slipstream utilises an aggressively tucked under-engine layout that keeps the entire system closer to the motorcycle's centreline. The result is a cleaner profile, improved integration, and a purposeful track-inspired aesthetic. It makes the same class leading peak power as our CP3 system, but with the added benefits of stronger low end power, easier fitment, lighter weight, and improved ground clearance. It's also slightly quieter for the rider with the outlet of the muffler staying tucked and pointed outwards rather than kicked upwards. 

Expect an aggressive exhaust note (but not obnoxious like the Racefit / SC Project CRT), class leading top end power, strong low and mid range performance, and significant weight savings compared to the factory exhaust system.

Performance Gains for the 2021-2023 MT09

The Slipstream system combines optimised exhaust flow, a high-flow catalytic converter, and a removable baffle arrangement to deliver meaningful performance improvements without sacrificing day-to-day rideability.

The Flanker muffler is supplied with our standard baffle fitted from the factory. This insert can be removed if desired. Customers can also select the optional Quietcore baffle, which replaces the standard insert and further reduces exhaust volume. When the Quietcore option is selected, both baffles are supplied with the exhaust system.

When paired with appropriate tuning, riders can expect:

• Up to 10-12hp peak gains at the rear wheel
• Improved torque across the full rev range
• Smoother on/off throttle transitions
• Significantly more powerful 1st and 2nd gear 

For normal road use, the Slipstream system can be installed and operated safely using the standard factory ECU calibration when running the supplied baffle. No additional tuning is required, and the system will not trigger warning lights or fault codes for Euro 5+ bikes with two o2 sensors.

For riders combining the exhaust with intake upgrades or operating without a baffle, ECU tuning is recommended to maximise power delivery and overall rideability.

O2 Sensor & Emissions Compatibility

MT09 models sold between 2021 and 2023 may vary slightly in sensor configuration depending on destination market and emissions requirements.

Slipstream systems are supplied with the required hardware to accommodate factory sensor arrangements, allowing straightforward installation across supported markets.

If your motorcycle utilises a different sensor arrangement to Australian-delivered bikes, the supplied bung and block-off hardware can be used where required.
